Attendance

~35,000 riders (estimated)

Why Go in 2026

The Outer Banks is one of America's most unique rally settings — a slender barrier island chain stretching 200 miles along the North Carolina coast. Pro Tips

🏨 Stay on the Outer Banks: Accommodations in Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head book fast in April. Reserve 2–3 months in advance.

Attendance

150,000–250,000+ attendees

Admission

FREE — all concerts and events are free to attend

Why Go in 2026

Leesburg BikeFest punches well above its weight for a free event. Thirty blocks of downtown Leesburg are taken over entirely by the rally — Main Street closes to car traffic and becomes a motorcycle-only parade — giving it an electric, community-owned feel unlike ticketed stadium events. With 60+ live bands on multiple stages, all without paying a dime at the gate, it's one of the best value rallies in America.

Event Highlights
  • Main Street closed to cars — motorcycles-only viewing on the most iconic stretch
  • Stunt shows, motorcycle demonstrations, and biker games
  • Custom bike show with multiple classes
  • 6 hot-body and bikini contests across the weekend
  • Poker runs benefiting local charities
  • 200+ vendors selling gear, accessories, leather, and apparel

5. Thunder Beach Motorcycle Rally

Dates

April 29 – May 3, 2026 (Spring Rally)

Location

Panama City Beach, Florida — Frank Brown Park & 7 official venues

Admission

Free — no main gate admission fee

Why Go in 2026

Thunder Beach occupies a sweet spot on the rally calendar — early May in Panama City Beach means warm Gulf Coast temps, uncrowded beaches, and a laid-back party vibe that locals genuinely embrace. It's one of very few major rallies where the whole city seems to lean in, with bars, restaurants, and hotels all participating. The 'World's Most Beautiful Beaches' tag is not just marketing; the sugary white sands of the Emerald Coast make it one of the most scenic rally settings in the Southeast.

Event Highlights
  • Frank Brown Park: Main rally hub with 200+ national vendors, live music stages, and demonstrations
  • 4 Official Thunder Beach Venues and 3 Official Partner Venues spread across PCB
  • Urban Rides All-Cycle Showdown — top bikes competing nationwide

  • Scenic Highway 30A: Charming beach communities with art galleries and seafood joints every few miles
  • DeFuniak Springs loop: ~75 miles inland through Florida panhandle pine country
Pro Tips

🏖️ Book beachfront: Spring break crowds thin by late April, so late April/early May is the sweet spot for both value and weather.

🎵 Multi-venue strategy: Download the Thunder Beach app or check thunderbeachproductions.com for the venue-by-venue schedule so you don't miss headliners spread across the beach.

6. Steel Horse Rally

Dates

May 1 – 2, 2026 (Friday – Saturday)

Location

Fort Smith, Arkansas (Historic Downtown & River Valley)

Admission

Free

Why Go in 2026

The Steel Horse Rally is Fort Smith's signature motorcycle event and one of the most welcoming rallies in the South-Central region. Held in a city with deep frontier history — Fort Smith was one of the last 'wild west' towns, home to Judge Isaac Parker — the rally combines a genuinely warm community spirit with spectacular Arkansas River Valley scenery. It's a smaller, more intimate event compared to the mega-rallies, making it ideal for riders who want quality over crowds.

Event Highlights
  • Live music on multiple stages throughout downtown Fort Smith
  • Custom bike shows and builder displays
  • Vendor areas featuring gear, accessories, and local artisan products
  • Organized group rides through Arkansas River Valley and Ozark foothills

  • Lee Creek Canyon loop: ~60 miles, forested twisties in western Arkansas
  • Arkansas River Scenic Highway: Flat, fast cruise along the river corridor with mountain views

Location

Myrtle Beach, SC — Grand Strand Coastal Area

Attendance

500,000–600,000+ riders across the Grand Strand

Admission

Free — no general admission required

Why Go in 2026

Celebrating its 87th year, Myrtle Beach Bike Week is one of the grandfathers of American motorcycle culture. What began as a modest coastal gathering in 1940 now draws over half a million riders to 60+ miles of Grand Strand coastline. The combination of oceanfront riding, genuinely welcoming locals, world-class seafood, and legendary rally bars makes it unlike any other East Coast rally. May weather — warm and sunny with low humidity — is ideal.

Event Highlights
  • Vendor exhibitions at The Beaver Bar, Suck Bang Blow, Rat Hole, Myrtle Beach HD, and Jamin' Leather
  • Crude's Famous Veteran Ride (May 13): Free 150-mile round trip to Moncks Corner — 250+ bikes participate annually
  • Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson events: Kick-off party, Biker Breakfast, factory demo rides, Cruise the Coast Rally Ride

  • Georgetown Loop: Through antebellum plantation country to the Waccamaw River — 100-mile day trip
Pro Tips

📅 10 Days is a Lot: Pick your 3–4 must-do days. The weekend (May 8–10 and May 15–17) tends to be the most crowded and lively.

🦞  Eat well: Murrells Inlet is South Carolina's 'Seafood Capital' — the waterfront restaurants here are a bucket-list experience during rally week.

Why Go in 2026

Why Go in 2026 — The 103rd Edition

Laconia is a pilgrimage. The World's Oldest Motorcycle Rally began in 1916 as a 'Gypsy Tour' with a few hundred riders around Lake Winnipesaukee, and 103 years later it remains one of the three national rallies alongside Sturgis and Daytona. Mid-June New Hampshire is arguably the most beautiful riding season in America — the Lakes Region is lush green, the mountains are clear, and Weirs Beach on Lake Winnipesaukee is postcard-perfect.

2026 Key Events
  • Peter Makris Memorial Ride (PMMR): Kicks off Saturday June 13 — state police-escorted ride around Lake Winnipesaukee to the Naswa Resort

  • AMA-Sanctioned Pro-Amateur Hill Climb: Wednesday at Gunstock Mountain Resort
  • FIM North American Vintage Road Races: NH Motor Speedway, first weekend

  • Lake Winnipesaukee Loop: ~70 miles of lake views and covered bridges
  • Mt. Washington Auto Road: For advanced riders only — 8% grades and 6,288-foot summit. Earn that 'This Car Climbed Mt. Washington' bumper sticker on two wheels
Pro Tips

📅 Friday the 13th: June 13 falls on a Saturday in 2026 — but watch for special tattoo and 13-themed events that traditionally run on Friday the 13th when it falls during rally week.

🚗 Kancamagus timing: Do the Kanc early morning on a weekday — by midday the tourist traffic on this famous road can stack up.

Official Site

bornfreeshow.com

Why Go in 2026

Born-Free is the antidote to mega-rally overwhelm. Founded in 2009 by Mike Davis and Grant Peterson as a small vintage chopper gathering in Orange County, it has grown into the West Coast's most respected custom motorcycle show — a back-to-basics celebration of handbuilt, garage-built, and vintage iron that people ride in, not trailer. The setting at Oak Canyon Park in the Southern California hills is beautiful, and the invited builder program features 32 of the world's most creative motorcycle craftsmen showcasing bikes built specifically for this show.

Event Highlights
  • Invited Builder Show: 32 international builders debut bikes built exclusively for Born-Free 2026
  • Open Show: All makes and models welcome — voluntary registration, laid-back judging. Best in Show wins a trip to the Mooneyes Hot Rod Show in Yokohama, Japan
  • Ives Brothers Wall of Death — a classic carnival act performed inside a wooden cylinder
  • AMCA Regional Swap Meet: American Motorcyclist Association's vintage parts swap
  • 200+ vendors and sponsors
  • Live music throughout both days
  • 1957 Harley Panhead chopper giveaway
Nearby Riding Routes
  • Santiago Canyon Road (CA-241): The venue itself sits on this beautiful Orange County canyon run
  • Pacific Coast Highway (PCH): 30 minutes west for the quintessential SoCal coastal cruise
  • Ortega Highway (CA-74): Twisty mountain pass connecting Orange County to the Inland Empire — a local favorite
Pro Tips

🏍️ Ride In: Born-Free rewards riders who come on two wheels. The open show is literally built around people riding their bikes into the show grounds.

🇯🇵 Builder Show: Arrive early Saturday when the invited builders' bikes are freshest — before the crowds make up-close viewing difficult.

12. Gettysburg Bike Week

Dates

July 9 – 12, 2026

Location

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania — Historic Civil War battlefield region

Admission

Free

Why Go in 2026

There may be no more uniquely American rally setting than Gettysburg. Riding among rolling Pennsylvania farmland, past Civil War monuments and through the preserved battlefield where the tide of the Civil War turned — and then gathering with thousands of fellow riders for bikes, music, and camaraderie — creates an experience unlike anything else on the calendar. Early July in south-central Pennsylvania brings warm summer weather perfect for exploring the historic byways.

Event Highlights
  • Main rally hub in downtown Gettysburg with vendors lining Steinwehr Avenue and environs
  • Custom bike shows and builder displays throughout the rally
  • Live music at venues across Gettysburg and Adams County
  • Organized group rides through Adams County farmland and battlefield roads
  • Proximity to Gettysburg National Military Park — one of the most visited historic sites in America
  • Access to the sprawling Pennsylvania Dutch Country to the east
Nearby Riding Routes
  • Battlefield Auto Tour Route: 24-mile loop through the preserved Gettysburg battlefield — incredibly scenic and historically powerful on two wheels
  • Lincoln Highway (US-30): America's first coast-to-coast highway passes through Gettysburg — ride east through York County or west toward Bedford
  • South Mountain Scenic Byway: 20 minutes north into the Blue Ridge Mountains for elevation and curves
  • Maryland's Catoctin Mountain Park: 30 minutes south — wooded mountain roads past Camp David's surrounding forests
Pro Tips

🏛️ Battlefield at dawn: Riding the Gettysburg battlefield on a July morning before the rally day crowds arrive is a genuinely moving experience. Seminary Ridge Road in golden hour light is unforgettable.

🍺 Local craft beer: Adams County has excellent craft breweries and cideries — a great rally-week downtime option between rides.

Why Go in 2026 — The 86th Rally

There is no rally like Sturgis. The 86th edition brings half a million to three-quarters of a million riders into a town of 7,000 people, transforming the Black Hills of South Dakota into the world's largest, most intense motorcycle gathering for ten days every August. Main Street becomes a rolling parade of chrome. The Buffalo Chip hosts world-class concerts. And beyond the town, some of America's most spectacular motorcycle roads — Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road, Spearfish Canyon — wait just minutes away.

Event Highlights
  • Main Street Sturgis: The endless parade of bikes, vendors, and spectacle — open 24 hours during the rally
  • Full Throttle Saloon: Billed as the world's largest biker bar — located on Hwy 34
  • Bear Butte Creek Campground: Family-friendly option with more laid-back atmosphere
  • Glencoe Camp Resort: Opens July 25 for early arrivals — great option if you want to settle in before the crowds
  • Indian Motorcycle, Harley-Davidson, and major manufacturers with demo rides and displays
  • AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame inductions and special events
Legendary Day Rides from Sturgis
  • Needles Highway (SD-87): 14-mile drive through granite spires — tight tunnels, hairpin turns, and otherworldly scenery. One of America's top 10 motorcycle roads
  • Iron Mountain Road (SD-16A): Three pigtail bridges, four tunnels framing Mount Rushmore, and switchbacks — designed to be ridden at 35 mph max for a reason
  • Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway: 20-mile limestone canyon with 1,000-foot walls, waterfalls, and dense forest — perfect for cooler mornings
  • Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial: Essential stops on any Sturgis visit — book timed entry in advance
  • Deadwood: 25 minutes from Sturgis — Wild Bill Hickok's saloon, working casinos, and great Western history
  • Custer State Park Wildlife Loop: Bison, pronghorn, and burros roaming the road — beautiful 18-mile loop
Sturgis Survival Tips

🌡️ Weather: Days hit 90–95°F; nights drop to 50°F. Pack layers. Afternoon thunderstorms are common — check the radar before afternoon rides.

🦌  Wildlife: Deer and buffalo are common on roads at dawn and dusk, especially in Custer State Park. Stay alert.

👮  Speed enforcement: Zero tolerance in the Black Hills. South Dakota law enforcement funds significant portions of the year's budget during Sturgis week. Don't speed.

📅 Midweek sweet spot: Tuesday–Thursday midday has the lightest Main Street traffic for scenic rides. Weekends are the most intense.

🤝 Mayor's Ride: The Monday morning Mayor's Ride traditionally kicks off the official week — join the tradition if you arrive early.

From the desert heat of Scottsdale in April to the Black Hills of South Dakota in August, the 2026 spring and summer rally calendar offers something for every type of rider. Whether you're drawn to the raw energy of Sturgis, the coastal serenity of the Outer Banks, the historic weight of Gettysburg, or the counter-cultural craft of Born-Free, every one of these events represents the same fundamental thing: the freedom of the open road and the community of those who love it.

Plan ahead, ride safe, and we'll see you out there.
