If it's just a surface crack with no leak, an epoxy patch can get you home short-term, but the cover is structurally compromised at that point and shouldn't be trusted long-term. The proper fix is replacing the cover outright. Start by checking the chain and sprockets themselves for stretch or wear — tension adjustment alone won't fix a chain that's already elongated. If the chain and sprockets check out fine, the more likely cause is a worn or loose factory chain roller/guide, which lets tension fluctuate over bumps even when it's set correctly at rest. Easy way to check: with the bike stationary, grab the front wheel/A-arm assembly and try to rock it side to side. Noticeable play (not steering resistance, but actual looseness) usually points to worn A-arm bushings — a common wear item on a platform that's now 20+ years old regardless of how it's been ridden. Modification / Track Riding
Worth being clear on both sides of this: NICECNC's Front A-Arm Lowering Link Kit drops the front 3.5" and widens the track 2", which lowers the center of gravity and sharpens cornering — good for flat track, drag, or trail riding. But NICECNC is explicit that this kit isn't built for heavy jumping — if your riding involves real airtime and hard landings, a lowering kit isn't the right category of upgrade; you'd want to look at reinforcing the suspension itself instead.
Structurally, the swing arm takes the most direct hits from rocks and debris since it sits low and exposed with no factory protection — repeated impacts here can deform or eventually crack it.
